I have two friends, Christian and Bronson, who have been having a friendly competition with coming up with great mix CDs. Bronson started it out with Fresh Jams Vol. 1, which comprised of early hip hop and breakdancing beats, and quickly followed up with Fresh Jams Vol. 2. I knew Christian wouldn’t be able to resist; he’s a mix-tape master, constantly making good mixes. Yesterday he hooked me up with Hip Hop You Forgot Vol. 1.
It is fantastic. Bronson’s got a lot to live up to now. I’ve listened to this mix about 100 times already. Nostalgia washes over me, and I feel like I’m in high school again, rolling around with my friends, listening to the Souls of Mischief’s 93 ‘Til Infinity, back in… um… 1993. It’s perfect to jumpstart my working day with, getting me out of the websurf slump and into some good productive work.
Bronson told me he is working up a Slow Jams mix soon… so like when you are with a lady? I don’t know, but I’m sure it will be great. The best part is everyone in our group wins.
If that came true, that would be fan-tastic.
However, I’m sure the oldies Hip Hop station of the future will be full of Buster Ryhmes*, Whoop There It Is and every song by Black Eye Peas.
But hey, who knows, radio may no longer exist. There will be only Clear Channel.
*Can be very annyoing.

Thanks for the props. I’m glad you enjoy the mix. It’s really exciting for me when it turns out that other people respond to the music for the same reasons I do. The scary thing is, I’m beginning to understand more and more the “Oldies” format on commercial radio.
What’s even scarier, is that someday, the songs in that mix will probably be playing on “Hip-Hop Oldies 101.9” or whatever.
They Reminisce Over You, indeed…
