A Touch of Darkness

I’m sitting here with the day off, waiting for my sinuses to clear out all the smoke they accumulated last night at the Eux Autres show (as mentioned over at Citizen Thom). The Chief is getting ready to go grab some sushi for lunch with her friends. It’s her birthday today. A couple of days ago was the anniversary of taking possession of this house, our first. The dog was unusually affectionate this morning. The weather is cool and pleasant with a chance of rain coming, knocking out plans for a bike ride on a leisurely schedule.

I keep watching the news and seeing elderly folks in New Orleans suffering through the heat and lack of medical attention, imagining what 20,000 plus people would smell like after no working bathroom for 4 days at the convention center where they were taken, and thinking about what it would be like handicapped down there in a wheelchair, left in your own mess to stink and never getting an opportunity to even get out of your chair.

It doesn’t take much to have a good day go horribly and tragically wrong. I’m thankful for any and all the good ones.

Hopefully the richest nation on the goddamn planet can get this crisis under control shortly.
