Brain Gets In The Way

I have a little cousin who since he has discovered that I draw comics thinks I’m the greatest thing since sliced bread. I ended up drawing 3 or 4 sketches for him just over Thanksgiving this year. For Christmas, I wanted to draw a poster for him, something I could print out in color and give to him. Nothing too fancy.

My goal was to get it done Friday night, but here I am Monday morning and I got nothing. The whole weekend was rough on me; I think I filled at least 25 pages in my sketchbook with possible ideas and none of them stuck, either because the concept wasn’t that good or through my own artistic failings. Not saying I’m a failure, but I sometimes have a problem coming up with anything if I haven’t been drawing for at least a week. This was one of those weeks.

I have the roughs done. I think I’m going to bang them out tonight. However, all of this effort has brought about a good idea. I got tired of drawing my Pinups because it was all looking the same for me after awhile. Why am I not doing super-hero pinups instead (and no, not sexy super-hero pinups) to mix it up? I could classify them as “girls,” “Marvel,” and “DC” if I wanted. After all this, I’m enjoying drawing super-heroes again.

I may try it and see what sticks… what do you think?
