Through the fog of uncertainty regarding my art style and getting only about 3 hours of sleep the last few nights, I’ve been led me to that weird insomniac place. I’ve been here before. Eyes burning. Brain trying to cope. By Day Two, even little ten minute cat naps bring such renewed vigor that you wonder why you don’t do them more often.
Before everyone asks, I am actually not suffering from insomnia this week (for once) – Quincy is not having a good time with his allergy treatment. You can tell he is miserable; I think if he could bite his skin clean off his bones, he would. So we’ve been taking turns trying to calm his itching attacks down in the middle of the night by holding him in place until he calms down.
Sometime that takes an hour.
Anyway – like I said, all power is being rerouted through the brain to keep me functioning properly during work hours at the least, but that has led to massive brainstorming. I’m entertaining business notions that were I better rested would poo-poo in an instant, but for some reason, these “bad” ideas are starting to sound amazingly good.
Last night I was thinking about another blog. I grimaced though when I thought about setting it up, which led me to think that TypePad might be a good solution. I’m not abandoning the Parlor here; I’m just thinking about a blog focusing on a specific topic and writing about that topic extensively. No, it won’t be comics-related, either. I have other interests.
This was more in the vein of something like Merlin Mann’s 43 Folders. Merlin is obviously adept at writing his own code, but he went for the quick TypePad solution so he could focus on the content. And it isn’t his only site – he’s got several.
This idea has been composed of a desire for more regular income to fund other projects: what subject do I know a lot about, could write passionately about, and earn some ad revenue off of?
We’ll see if the idea still sticks by Sunday…
Maybe do some reinforcement techniques wit the dog. Good “Non itching quiet” dog gets to sleep in the bedroom, bad “itching & noisy” dog sleeps in the garage.
Yes, but we’re the bastards that give him the shots that make him itch; it isn’t a “good dog” or “bad dog” thing. He’ll get done with one of his insane itching fests and just collapse, exhausted. He saw the vet this morning, so we got him some treatments to help the poor little guy out.
Seriously, though, get some sleep. Find those somnatic MP3s that were on Lifehacker a couple of weeks ago.
This isn’t actually insomnia; I have no problems falling asleep (lately). This is more of staying up with my poor sick dog and trying to comfort him. He’s itched himself raw in a few spots. And he is definitely more comfortable with us near him. I’ll get him up between us and hold him like a fuzzy football. That helps most of the time. It wasn’t enough this morning.

Dear god man, get some sleep!
