One of the longer term projects that I’ve been working on since late last year has been redesigning the official website for the College World Series. It has long been a feather in Bozell’s cap, so I was excited to make my own mark on it this year.
I wanted this site to work on a grid to allow for flexibility with the enormous amount of content that the site has accumulated over the years. I also wanted to infuse a sense of Americana into the design. Baseball is such an integral part of American culture, and the Series is, in my opinion, one of the purest forms of the game left (minus the metal bats, of course).
I’m also happy with the chance to work on my ActionScripting for some dynamic Flash applications. The weather module up top near the logo is built with Weather.com’s custom XML feed pulled through Flash, which displays the current conditions near Rosenblatt. We’ve also built a bracket application with Flash that I’m excited to see in action after the Series gets fully underway.
I’m very lucky to be a part of such a great team; we all work together and play off each other’s work seamlessly.
This morning, ESPN started covering the teams that have been picked for the Regionals. I’m excited for all the teams that have made it this far, and wish them well on the Road to Omaha.
