Damn you, Economist, what with your great reporting, good design and tempting offers. I’ve signed back up for your excellent magazine, thus dooming myself to never getting through an entire issue of your dense coverage of world events, which makes me feel like a failure and a bad human being weekly.
I’ve started looking at you more and more, what with Murdoch buying the Wall Street Journal. Plus I just felt more well-rounded on events when you were delivered weekly. I kept telling myself that I would hit your website more frequently after I unsubscribed last year – I realized I wasn’t getting through most of your content. And like all things related to dismissing clutter, I dumped you unceremoniously. I now understand my mistake; even getting through some of what you offer is better than a false promise of catching up with free online content.
Hey, Max. Nice meeting you in Chicago. I agree about the subscription thing as the same thing happened to me with The Nation which is actually a lot smaller. I had considered getting The Economist since once I subscribed to The Nation I started getting offers from other mags and The Economist was one of them and looked great but if I can’t keep up on The Nation how could I with something 5 times as large?
