In what was supposed to take 30-40 minutes this morning, I spent all day updating my development environment at work. We use BEA Weblogic. I know nothing about it really, or at least, that was true yesterday. Since I had not updated my dev environment since, oh, September from last year, I had to upgrade the hell out of it (with the true patience of one of our senior developers).
Let me give you a picture: to get this thing up, you need 4 DOS command prompts running.
Let me give you another picture: Max on DOS is like a monkey throwing poop. You don’t know what is going on, and you kind of want to turn your head away from the whole spectacle. The whole day consisted of the aforementioned developer saying, “Dude, you’re in DOS,” followed by a “sonuvaBITCH!”
MS-DOS creators, I know this is coming from a graphic designer, but was it really so hard to conform to backward-slashes as opposed to forward-slashes? Do you realize how frustrating it is to someone who has finally gotten used to UNIX to go to DOS for something simple like, changing a frickin’ directory?
And while this is tempting to try, my brain about exploded after the umpteenth call to Ant to run some compiling XML doodad that I don’t even want to think about it for awhile.
