I’ve been looking for an image of this poster for years, pretty much ever since the movie originally came out in 1996 (I think). The Mouse is based on the true story of Bruce “The Mouse” Strauss, the most losing-est boxer in history (he figured that even if you get knocked out, you get money, so who cares if you lose). He’s a local legend, and when he trained and wanted to win, he was actually a good fighter. I just love the poster (if you look really close, on his forehead it says “Hit Me”). Last night, I was at a bar that The Mouse frequents and found not only the movie poster but his signature adorning it. It was part of my inspiration for Golden Boy, and if the movie is ever released on DVD, I’ll be snapping it up — it’s pretty hilarious to watch John Savage portray The Mouse. Just a sweet guy trying to make a buck for his family, and finding the easiest way to do it was to get hit… a lot.
