    First Bike Ride

After finally given up on running ever again (and no, not due to surgery, newer readers who have written in – it is from my achillies tendon popping on a 5 miler), I purchased slicks for my bike last Monday. I have never changed a set of tires in my life. Yesterday, I slipped my knobbies off easily enough and put on the road slicks. Quite a sense of accomplishment, once I had the right tools (thanks, Dan). I also bought a helmet and gloves – I don’t need much in the clothing department as most of my running gear can pull double duty (wicking shirts, especially).

The Chief and I hit the trail around 11:30 this morning. and we rode until around 1 in the afternoon, probably around 10-12 miles overall. I could have ridden all day. It was wonderful, just to be outside again with the wind in my face. Our pace was moderate, my butt is fine, and my legs aren’t tired at all. I’m afraid to say it, but maybe my body has predisposition for the sport. We’ll see after a week or so, but I am definitely excited! I would love to throw myself back into something physical (and to work off the beer, oh, beer, I love you).

Congrats on getting out, buddy. Cycling is a great sport, great exercise, and much easier on your body than the running. Plus you go faster & farther.

And yes, it’s finally time to be outside again.

Thanks, Ben! I feel like I have gravy for blood, but I’m getting there!
