I just got done running my first 5-miler! I was smoking a pack and a half a day in 2000. Here we are in 2004 and I finally ran a 5 mile stretch. So far, this has been the best running year ever for me in my brief time doing it, and it is only March. I started running in 2001, and usually get brutally injured sometime in the summer. After my wife started running with me last year, I slowed down to her pace and noticed that I started mechanically running much better. She unfortunately had to work late tonight; I would have liked to have done this with her.
The weather was beautiful, I could hear all the little leaguers practicing, and that last mile was hell, but god, I feel great.
Oh yeah, and I feel awful. My knee is a puffy fluid mess and my hamstrings are much tighter than normal. I’ll rest up for a few days before I’ll head out again.
The pain is minor to the accomplishment.
