    Golden Boy Alternative Cover Sketches

As I mentioned before, it has been brought to my attention that perhaps there could be more retailer orders for Golden Boy were it to have a different cover. Granted, I think everyone is in agreement that the current cover is well designed and striking, but it may help if the person ordering books for their shop get a little preview of what it is they’d actually be getting without going online.

First Attempt - Cole in a sort of Jacko pose

With that in mind, I sketched up a concept that Chuck had bounced off of me. We were going for a tired Cole, one who was feeling the weight of age, so to speak. This first sketch ended up looking a little too Michael Jackson, but I sent it on anyway. Sometimes I’ll do something I don’t necessarily like but everyone else in my life thinks it is great, so I send out some roughs that might not turn my crank completely figuring I can work out my problems with it down the line.

Chuck thought this was too defiant. Fine with me! On to Rough #2!

The following result is something that I was immediately happy with, and Chuck likes it as well. I’m especially happy with how the figure is constructed; some of the lessons that John K. had been posting has added a bit more energy to my work. Expect to see a more finished version of this later on in the week.

    Second attempt is mo' betta!
