So, a couple things come to mind when thinking of Nebraska typically: good steaks and good football, football being the preeminent thing in all Nebraskans minds next to the weather. We loves us some football.
So, I can’t think I am the only one who finds it utterly bizarre that Nebraska has made it to the College World Series again. This is seriously messing with our whole mindset. Nebraska baseball has been non-existent for the last bazillion years. Now we have state representation at the Series (which if you are a fan, you know that the Series is held right here in Omaha)?! At this rate, we might legalize pot and gay marriage in one fell swoop, just because our world has been turned upside down. I’m sure rabid baseball fans are in the making as we speak, retro-fitting their football gear to baseball as quickly as their obsessions/wallets will let them (“I’ve always been a fan of the baseball program!”).
Despite the fanboy love, congratulations to the Husker baseball team, and good luck here in Omaha. And if you are nearby, try to make it any one of the games: the CWS is a blast to watch (as with most college sports).
Or just follow the action here at HuskerZone.com.
That’s why I added this qualifier:

But I didn’t go into the stats because I didn’t think anyone would care (obviously I was wrong). I’m more fascinated with the fact that in a state so obsessed with a football dynasty that the Nebraska baseball team has accomplished so much these last few years.
And yes, I am surly today, but I am trying not to come off as surly in this response.
I think it is the whole underlying fear that the football dynasty might be gone, and the people are dying to latch on to something.
Maybe that and you can buy beer at Rosenblatt stadium for baseball and can’t at Memorial Stadium for football (Don’t know if you can get beer at Haymarket Park).
I think the CWS is more laid back better time than Saturday football. I love husker football, but some people take it waaay to seriously.

Oh, the crazies are already out there in droves, y’know? It is the same people that always say “We” at a game. “We scored!” “We’re number one!”
No, you mouth-breather, they scored, they won. You sat here and watched them do it. Take off your licensed Tom Osborne Adidas Nebraska hat, stop coaching from the sidelines and get a life.
I’m right there with you; I enjoy it, but I can’t get that worked up over it.
Like I said, I can only imagine the business being done to convert the football fan gear to baseball fan gear…
San Dimas High School Football Rules.
I don’t know about the Huskers.
The Husker’s sporting dominance doesn’t end with football. Women’s volleyball, women’s indoor track and field, bowling and men’s gymnastics all have multiple national championships to their credit.
Given those numbers, NU’s baseball program is still lagging. Notice I did’t say, “our” baseball team. You gotta bring home the gold for possesive pronouns to be freely bandied about.
We lost!
Is it ok to say it now?
ahahahaha! I guess being 1558 miles away from the hive, I don’t mind the possesive nature of the fans.
Besides, too much individualism in ‘our’ society is posioning ‘us.’
Reports coming in from baseball fans are just as I suspected: legions of Husker fanatics flooded Rosenblatt, actually knowing nothing at all about baseball…

Very true. They get a brief mention in the papers, unfortunately, and that is about it.

Where have you been…?
Nebraska has qualified for the NCAA Baseball Tournament seven times, including five of the past six seasons. NU was also one of only two programs in the country to qualify for the CWS in both 2001 and 2002
