This is Lilly, our new foster dog. She is a 7 month old maltese/poodle mix, and man, she’s a whole mess of fun. Sorry for the lack of communication here – I do have a couple of posts I want to share in various stages, but this little girl really kept me busy last night, and gave me and the Chief not much sleep. She is a pooping and peeing machine also, so we need to give her quite a bit of attention so she can get house-trained and crate-trained. It’s exhausing for all of us, including Quincy.
We have Lilly for a week, where we’ll decide then if we want to adopt her or not. The Chief goes on RAGBRAI in a couple of days, which means it could be a rough week with me and two dogs.

Actually, the foster to adopt is really only an option for special people like you who know special people like me. The rest of our adoption are “here is the dog and good luck.” However, this brings up a good plug for humane society foster care programs. Most shelters have foster care that involves volunteers bringing animals into their home that need special care until ready for adoption. For example, my mom fosters kittens until they weigh enough to be fixed. This is an excellent option for someone who isn’t sure if housetraining a puppy is for them. Ask Max, he hasn’t been able to do much in the last twenty four hours. Isn’t there a pin-up due soon? :)
She has actually gotten better with the potty-training. She is holding her bladder while we sleep and she only had the two accidents yesterday evening.
Now the sleeping situation is a bit rough still… apparently the first night was a fluke. She really, really does not like that crate. She really just wants to jump on me in bed and snuggle up into my face as a legitimate sleeping arrangement. Or have Nikki sleep with both of the dogs on the couch. I think she’s pissed that Quincy does not have to go in a crate and he gets to sleep with us.
