    Mid-Week, Mid-Process

I’m officially mid-week at the new job. I kind of wish I had taken a bit of time off now; everything is a little disorientating in my head. I’m a bit down still from leaving my life of four years behind, but it is so exciting to be at a new job meeting and meeting new people. The decision has been further cemented by the fact that I already started working on a new website today for a client, and 5PM came way too fast. That is a good sign. It felt like when I was redesigning the OTC site: my brain felt happy, almost like completing a crossword or a similar excercise.

In other news, started working the new Golden Boy cover. Here’s a mid-process shot of the work thus far:

Me likey! As I look at it, you’ve got some nice suggestive elements: a few bricks instead of the whole brick wall, the leaves blowing in the wind-setting the mood/season, the poster which establishes boxing, the other brick building in the background making this clearly urban.

Personally, I think you strip it back further. [Caveat: I’m a fan of white space.] What else can you leave out? What can you do more with less? How does it stay evocative, but make Cole really pop.

Yeah, I said it. On this cover, he’s a graphic.

    Make him pop. More, even.

My fav is the cool shadows on him. Should they be eleswhere? And maybe the leaves should be a little more identifiable.

Reminds me sorta of the current 100 Bullets covers.
