So, in the middle of watching my fourth viewing (with commentary track on) of Sin City last night, I thought about my month of free evenings since I finished Quick Step. I’ve been working out! I’ve not been drinking! I’ve been watching good movies and relaxing! Nothing feels rushed!
In other words, I’m kind of bored.
I miss working on Quick Step. It was such a huge step for my writing and art coming from Golden Boy, and I think you can see the excitement in the pages when you read them. I just wanted to tell a little short pop-bubblegum story, and I think I did it well. Not perfect, but well.
On the webcomic side, I wanted to learn how to build an audience online. There are many things I would do differently, but I think for the most part I didn’t fall on my face in that area either.
And really what I discovered last night is that I am hooked. This has been a nice break, but I need to get started on my new graphic novel. What I have been doing, well, it is everything I ever dreamed about when I was younger. I’m doing it, creating comics, and people are reading it in ways I could not have imagined ten years ago. This is so much fun for me!
I’ve been talking the plot over with Ben this morning and I’m getting all excited to rip into it. I’ve had sketches for this since early 2003, so I think the story is ready to come out of the oven. This will be a long one, updating three times a week at least, I think (maybe four – haven’t decided). It should take over a year to tell the story. In the meantime, I’m still planning on doing a 24 Hour comic for the time being.
