    Pinup Poetics

    Blackbird Girl

I came home from work, and both my wife and I crashed for several hours. It was probably one of the best naps I’ve ever had. She’s a good nap buddy.

Anyway, I’m sipping some Glenlivet (thanks Joe & Laura!) and working on a little postcard deal for this guy. This piece was actually finished a year ago, but it has always bugged me since I didn’t have the time nor the patience last year to achieve the effect I really wanted to. As I have been playing around with my style lately, I thought I would try to re-do it how I had originally envisioned it. Part of the problem with the last piece was that I was trying to sketch a realistic looking girl and color a pinup-style illustration off of a scan. The end result was rough and, truthfully, kind of creepy. This look was done based off a sketch, but manipulated in Illustrator with vectors for a much more clean and fun result.

The finished illustration will be printed with a series of others as postcards. Each postcard is a variation on Wallace Steven’s “Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird”—13 artists for 13 stanzas.

    Hence, Pinup Poetics.
