    Pinups, Anyone?

    March 2005 Pinup Preview

I finally broke down and did it. I’ve added a Pinup section to the site. The idea had been floating in my mind for awhile now, and this decision did not come easily. I was hesitant to do this for several reasons:

    1. I didn’t want to be known as a ‘girly pic’ artist (if you are into comics, you know what I’m talking about).
    2. I wasn’t sure if I could take on the additional workload.
    3. I wasn’t sure I was good enough (sorry, but no one can shake the artist’s self-doubt thing).

However, I came around when I started to think about the benefits:

    1. Who cares if I’m just known as a ‘girly pic’ artist? It isn’t like I haven’t been doing more serious work.
    2. One complete illustration a month could be really good for me, especially if I change up the styles and the tone of the subject matter. I feel that growing as an artist is worth the additional work.
    3. I’m only going to get good if I actually do it, so screw the self-doubt. Sometimes you gotta fail in public to learn something.
    4. I get a ton of people already coming to this site from Google or Yahoo! looking for pinups thanks to several other posts. Why not give them what they are looking for?

So, here’s the deal. I’ll be updating the Pinup section each month near or around the 1st of every month with a new desktop wallpaper available for download in a variety of sizes. I’m going to try this for at least a year and just see where it goes. If it is really popular, and I still enjoy doing them, then there will be new pinups every month for the conceivable future.

Also, I have licensed all the work I do in the Pinup section with a Creative Commons license. Instead of the standard copyright, I’m opening this little project up to the public. You are free to download, share, and mess with these images in your own projects as long as you do not use them for commercial gain, give me original credit, and open whatever project my work is in under the same license. I am excited at the possibilities of this action, and I hope someone can use my work for something really neat if they would want to.

Finally, since these images are free, I have set up a Tip Jar for donations using BitPass. If you enjoy my work, and would like to contribute something for my time and effort, make a donation! If you donate more than $5.00, you are considered a Premium Donor! A Premium Donation grants you access to all of the high resolution layered source files of every illustration I ever post for up to a year!

Getting a BitPass account is quick and easy, plus there are some great webcomics and music available for purchase with an account (including my own webcomic in the near future – more on that later).

Whew! I’m really excited about this! This little germ of a project has developed into something with a ton of potential within the span of a week, both personally and professionally. I hope you enjoy it!

Well done, Max. I know the hard work you’ve put into setting this up. The finished product is great.

After the response I’ve had over three days, you can bet there is going to be a calendar…
