About the third Saturday of every month, a couple of the local comic boys in Omaha meander down to Krypton Comics to hang with Fredd for his Inside the Artist Studio workshop. It is an informal gathering for anyone interested in comics creation. This month, fellow Shocktraumanauts Brook Turner and Jason Caskey (bringing his lovely girlfriend, Laura) came down to join Fredd, Bruce and I. What a great time! Five comic geeks sketching and chatting all day was wonderful, and it elevated my spirits tremendously. I did a few sketches for people, one was a Black Lightning, the other was Darth Maul, who apparently in the comics survived being cut in half and falling down a mile long pipe (see above).
After the shop closed, we all went out to dinner at Cascio’s for a good steak dinner. I didn’t want the day to end. It was like being at a convention, full of excitement, but without any of the hassle. An added bonus to the event was the discovery that we almost all had new work lined up for us in the coming months! 2006 is starting out right so far for ourselves and comics.
Hey Max!
Just wanted to drop a line here and let you know we had a great time in Omaha last weekend. Laura really had a fun time (which shows what a a rare creature she is; not many women would join her man to hang out for hours in a comic shop, let alone enjoy it so much), and your Black Lightning sketch was a fine additon to her sketch collection!
I’m keeping an eye out for ‘rasslin’ excitement here in Iowa so you and Fredd can come join us!
