Saturday Nite <s>Fever</s> Drawing

Ah, the exciting life of comics! Hunched over a computer, drawing all night while trying desperately to avoid playing Tron on the magnificent 20-inch screen. The page I am working on has taken me much longer than expected, mainly from redrawing a bookshelf four times. At least there are some real good panels coming out of it though. I am particularly proud of this one. It has a very noir feel to it, which I love, but I am also very happy with the quality of my lines, something I’ve been trying very hard to improve. The characters’ rendering is both lush and spartan with the line work. This feels like one of the first panels I’ve done where I had a firm unconscious grasp of the lines the brush would make, so the whole panel just (for lack of a better term) flowed out of my head, down my arm and onto the page. It is almost how I would have imagined it in my head.

Slowly but surely, as they say! The only way to get better is to just keep doing it, and doing it, and doing it, until it is natural.
