I’ve finally gone and done it; I’ve switched to Textpattern.
It has been one of those weeks struck upon in your 20s, when you are visiting friends that quite possibly will never enter your life again as they begin new phases in their lives (this year’s theme is the master’s degree completion). Many people who I haven’t heard from in quite some time read the Parlor here daily, which has me taken aback. I never really pay that much attention to the site logs. More importantly, these friends told me that they (unconsciously) never bother to call or email as they just come to the site for updates on how I’m doing. All of them mentioned how they would love to leave comments.
Coincidentally, I’ve been writing a report on online community building at work, where I’ve been stressing the importance of the company to have an open acknowledgment and dialog with their audience. See where this is going?
Now that I’ve managed to get the ‘practice what I preach’ daily lesson out of the way, I decided this morning to make this site more open for community. I now have the ability for commenting, and a much easier interface with which to manage my creativity.
I don’t like to drink alone in my Parlor all the time. Now, you can all join me once in awhile.
Commenting is still buggy. Safari won’t let you post a comment on the page, but Mozilla will. The only way to get around it is with pop-up comments.
Even then, were you to click on the permalink and tried to comment there from Safari, you’ll get the 405 error. Textpattern is still not even in full release yet, so that is what I get. :)
Thanks for the troubleshoot, Ben!
Hey Max!
What a spiffy idea, adding comments to your blog. I have been thinking of possibly doing the same thing for my website, but you know how it is… little to no time.
I am glad to see you are getting the response to your website like you had hoped. That is the main reason i maintain my website, so that friends of mine from all over can check up on my goings on without the expense of a long distance phone call. Sort of like having your own billboard on the web for those who might be interested. I certainly read your website most days.
Well take care!

Max, thanks for making it possible for me to send out my shouts. Next time I’m in town, the Glenlivet’s on me.
Haha, thanks. :) It’s in the works.
With working full-time, going to school part-time and getting used to being a new parent I’m trying to devote some spare time.
We are in transition to move into an apartment soon, so that will help tremendously since I will have enough space for my drawing table. For the time being we’ve had to live with family since we just barely moved to the East from California (only been here a year now).
Sideville will flourish in due time. I’ve got some sketches I want to share, but need to refine them a bit more before public unvailing.
I’m thrilled people are excited about it as much as I am. :)
Thanks Kate! It was good to see you too.
Send me an email about your commenting problems (what browser were you using, yadda-yadda-yadda).
Black Keys is being burned for you as I type this. you shall love it.
The Black Keys are a band right? You’re not performing some sort of ritual burning sacrifice in my effigy, correct?
I was in safari and I tried to post on sunday night. I would have been the first to post too if had worked. but all is fine now. works in safari just fine.
the black keys is the band that cliff and I were telling you about at the rose and crown on friday night. you will like.

Congrats on getting comments to work. I know that it was bugging the hell out of you.
It is strange to have people just check up with you online. I have people say they read my site, and don’t bother to leave comments.
Most other times when people check up on you, you get feedback. Whether it’s a phone call or an email, you actually interact with them. It’d odd that someone can be caught up with you without you being caught up with them.
Then again, sometimes people will search you out, reappear from the past because they happened across your web site, or googled you. What strange times we live in.
