The End of BitPass

I was just notified in email that BitPass (a micropayment system) is ceasing operations. This would seem to put to rest the large webcomic debate over the matter.

I used the service originally when I released Golden Boy online. It worked well enough without any hiccups, but only a few gracious souls were nice enough to support me in that fashion (and to those few, a hearty thank you indeed). In theory (and in Scott McCloud’s view), micropayments could have been a fabulous way to support your work online. In practice however, well, see above – the end of BitPass. Truthfully, over the last few years while thinking about future webcomic attempts, BitPass never crossed my mind as an option after the Golden Boy attempt.

Still, it was a neat service, and I’m sorry that a passionate company is no longer in the world.
