The final season of The Wire starts on Sunday. I watched every episode thus far during the summer and quickly became amazed at how it is the most underrated show on television. Seriously. I don’t get why more people aren’t watching it, because the issues this show tackles are the some of the most important issues facing American cities today. Ironically, this season deals with the media and how it ignores these issues.
HBO has some digital video shorts up on their promotional website ; three videos are fictional accounts of the characters in their younger days (Prop Joe in the schoolyard, one of Omar’s first stick-ups, and the first meeting between Bunk and McNulty). They also have two overview shows online that have been aired on TV: The Wire Odyssey, detailing what has gone on before, and The Wire: The Last Word, which gives a preview to the upcoming season.
Catch up and watch the show on Sunday.
