    Additional Golden Boy Panel

I’ve been working hard on Golden Boy now that I finally have some time. I wanted to add in a sequence at the end to help tie things in better with the beginning for the reader. I’m really happy with this panel. I haven’t drawn anything for a couple weeks, so I’m thrilled I was able to go this loose and expressive out of the gate. I’ve always wanted my style to head in this direction; I’m glad all the sketching and hard work is finally paying off.

Anyway, I’m wrapping this puppy up for both printing and for the Unbound eBooks, so the much maligned Golden Boy Blog is active again, if you care to cast your peepers over there occasionally.

Great imagery, Max. Especially love the subtle lighting and shadows, and of course, the color scheme.

Actually, the color scheme for Goldenboy will most likely be the exact opposite of the colors I’m using for Sideville.

In this case; very dark, muted colors and an extreme use of highlights and shadows. Very Tim Burton-esque if you may.

Thanks! I wish I could have it printed in color. Oh well, the eBooks will be in color at least.

I’m excited to start seeing Sideville stuff!

    God bless those e-books. ;)

As for Sideville, I’m tying it in with some of my Visual Communications coursework for college.

Did I mention I’ll be taking a course in Typography? I couldn’t be more anxious if I tried. I’m a type freak.

Luckily some of the credits I’ve amassed over the past four years cleared up a few classes that I would’ve otherwise had to take.

Do not be anxious over your typography course! Read The Elements of Typographic Style and you will be overloaded with more knowledge than you care to have (if you haven’t already).

Thanks, Max. Actually I—believe it or not—haven’t read it. Maybe I could convince my wife to purchase it, otherwise I’ll just have to wait until “class time”.

It’s a bible of sorts, and therefore hard to get through in parts. However, the richness of detail and what you take away from it is amazingly concise and useful. It is very philosophical and historical at the same time. I used to sit and read it over my lunch hour.
