In an effort to prepare myself for the coming cold/flu season, I’ve been getting up early this week to go to the gym for some cardio. And I’m getting tubby. Probably not that tubby, but it always feels worse than it looks.
When I was running, I never got sick. If I did, it was just for a day or two. I miss that. Last year while not running, I was sick three times. Screw that. I hate being sick.
In the meantime, however, I have to suffer through my body’s internal settings being out of sync. Getting up 1 hour earlier is messing with me badly. I’m drinking a good deal of coffee. Last night I had the nervous, tired headache you get from being up too long and being too caffeinated. I know if I can last for three weeks (the time it takes for any activity to become habit-forming), I’ll be okay. Still, it’s hard telling yourself that in the darkness of morning when all you want to do is turn back over and go to sleep.
I hate the gym, but right now, I hate my bike more. Since I can’t afford a new one right now, and I can’t run anymore, the elliptical machines at the gym are a good way to go. Plus, since I’m there so early, it isn’t as hot or damp as later in the day.
However, yes, the weird dampness factor disturbs me…

Don’t you feel like the gym is the home of all germs? It’s always hot and slightly more damp than is appropriate.
