Apparently, I haven’t been to yoga class since October. It showed last night when I reappeared to practice. My body is in a weird state of flux: I haven’t had much physical activity over the winter besides walking the dog, but I’ve lost weight. Like, 21 pounds. So what I found last night was that there was less meat to get in the way of my poses (my shoulders especially had a greater range of movement). However, I also found that my endurance, strength, flexibility and balance have gone down hill.
The hardest balance pose for me was Ardha Chandrasana. It is always difficult, even when I’ve been practicing. I was able to do it, but I had to concentrate, especially as I turned my gaze upward (that really disorients me).
I feel the after effects this morning. My hips and shoulders are noticeably looser and are sitting in my joints better. My hope is to build up to a morning routine everyday. I always feel better when I do yoga.
Also, we only did one inversion last night (shoulder stand). Thank goodness. I might have face planted if I did a hand stand. Talk about embarrassing.
