The Chief and I went on a longish ride Sunday, after I purchased some good bike shorts with padding and to eliminate any chaffing. The 90 minutes we were out was wonderful. I hadn’t known that the further south you go on the Keystone trail between Omaha and Bellevue was such a beautiful place. It is almost like untouched prairie out there in spots.
We turned around into a nasty wind, and that was when I started to really notice my body aches. This was my first ride since March (?!), so I knew I would be sore, but this was a bit unexpected. In particular, my shoulders and back were starting to tighten up. So, I brought my shoulders up onto my back like in Cobra. Instant relief! I felt everything start to loosen up, and my hands even got more circulation to them.
And you know how your ass and nearby areas hurts after your first few rides? Well, mine still hurt. That is, until immediately after our yoga class last night. I sat down to put my shoes on to leave and felt like I had squeezed the Charmin. My butt was blissfully less sore. We had worked on opening up our hips all night. Ben’s tutelage has cured what was ailing me!
I know these are all symptoms of a beginning rider and that they’ll go away soon enough, but I have to say that yoga really helped out in making them less noticeable.
Two words: Bike shorts
Negates you ability to call anyone else uncool if included in the thread.
Now why don’t you shave your legs for aero dynamic reasons.
lol
Walter
Because hiding behind a picture of John Goodman from The Big Lebowski validates the “coolness?”
Just by using “LOL” in your comment alone… what the hell?! Are you 12? Is your junk big enough yet to get rubbed the wrong way on a bike even? Call me when the pubes come in, we’ll go get you some bike shorts.
I think there’s an important distinction to be made here.
Wearing bike shorts while biking = cool. Plus they provide much needed padding on longer rides.
Wearing bike shorts to the mall = Milli Vanilli.

Personally, I don’t think Yoda helps cycling much. He usually want to stop for Dairy Queen, and that’s just not conducive to getting my bike on. Plus he expects me to pay.
Also, I find this cobra pose really opens up the shoulders...
Yeah, when’s christianthom.com going online? Or just thom.com?

I find that Yoda helps cycling, too. I carry him around on my back, so the extra weight helps build strength and endurance. Plus, he’s a pretty good coach. Whenever I get tired he encourages me by saying things like “Do or do not. There is no try.”
