Quick Step is about a mouse named Lorenzo Quick, and boy, this kid can dance! Unfortunately, there is another great dancer at school, Jonny B, who has his eyes set on Sandra to take to the Spring Fling. And well, Sandra seems to have her eyes set on Lorenzo. The heart of Sandra is the prize once Jonny challenges Lorenzo to a good ol’ dance-off! But Lorenzo may have other ideas...
Quick Step will be released in webcomic format online on June 2, 2005, and will be updated weekly every Thursday until December (26 weeks).
Five pages in, and I still haven’t gotten ahead. For the fifth time, I sat down and got this inked on Wednesday night (pencilled it on Sunday). I hate doing that to myself, but at the same time, I kind of get off on it. Working the page, facing a deadline, it all gives me a bit of a thrill. I am going to try to work ahead this holiday weekend though before I go on vacation in August, so the update will not be a problem. It will seem like I was here though, and everyone will be impressed (“He even works during his vacation! Committed!”).
Yep.
So, this week was “fun with sound effects” week. I hadn’t done any in awhile so I broke out one of my favorite books for some tips, Comic Book Lettering: The Comicraft Way. I picked this up at WizardWorld Chicago on a whim a couple of years ago, and I was impressed with how much I flip through it for tips and ideas. It’s weird when my passions for comics and design are sated in one sitting. Comicraft makes some great fonts; I picked up a couple on their annual New Year’s Day sale and have been very satisfied. However, if you need cheap (as in free) and your an independent comic creator, you really can’t go wrong with Blambot. In fact, the SFX font and the dialogue font used on this page are from Blambot. Great, great stuff.
